About The Portfolio

About this Portfolio

Hello.  I am a student in the MAT teacher education program at Seattle Pacific University.   As part of the Certification process for SPU I am required to document my learning and concept development throughout the two year program by using an electronic web-log or blog.  I am required to demonstrate my understanding and competency in the four teacher certification standards of Washington State (Standards STLP).  I will be using this site as a means to demonstrate my collective development and growth as a MAT student and to demonstrate my competency in these core standards.

During the Introduction to Teaching class (EDU 6120), I learned about the standards and created this portfolio using a blog format. As I complete courses during the program, and as I complete my student teaching internship, I will submit three types of blogging posts:

1. The first type of entry will include reflections on what I am learning and on my experiences. I will be able to share my thoughts about my development as a teacher. I will also be able to talk about the experiences I am living as part of this program.

2. The second type of entry will be slightly more formal as I include both teacher-based and student-based artifacts (papers, projects, images, video links, etc.) with my posts to help demonstrate my developing competency on the certification standards. I will self-assess these submissions in reference to the rubrics provided in class.

3. The third type of entry will be reflective assignment submissions that my instructors may ask of me as part of the course they are teaching.

For every post, I will post the entry with either the certification standards and/or other tags that are meaningful to me for that post. Faculty and my University Coordinator will periodically review my posts and provide feedback as they see fit.

Additionally, as required in the MAT program, I will present meta-reflections on each standard and faculty will conduct a full review. These can be found on the “Standards” pages in this site.
